About the Department of Biophysics The Department of Biophysics at UT Southwestern is dedicated to uncovering the structural and energetic properties of molecules and their assemblies, linking these properties to biomedical and cellular functions. Our biophysicists explore biological organization and dynamics across a spectrum of scales and timescales, from angstroms to microns and picoseconds to evolutionary time.
Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Research Associate to join our team at Herz Lab. In this role, you will:
- Plan and execute experiments to achieve project goals in collaboration with team members.
- Conduct cell culture, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, protein purification, molecular pharmacology, toxicology, and organic biochemistry.
- Recommend or initiate new or modified procedures and techniques based on project developments.
- Perform data accumulation and analysis using computer programming.
- Supervise and instruct lab personnel of lower grades and assist with writing reports and papers.
Candidate Requirements:
- Education: Master’s degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, or Neurology (preferred) with three years of laboratory experience, including two years at the Research Assistant II level, or a Bachelor’s degree with four years of laboratory experience.
- Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, cell culture, western blotting, PCR, sequencing, molecular pharmacology, toxicology, and working with live research specimens. Familiarity with genetics, electrophysiology, and animal behavior is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and refine procedures and techniques based on research data.
- Program and analyze research data.
- Design, repair, and modify lab equipment.
- Train medical and graduate students on research techniques.
- Assist in writing reports and scientific papers.
- Provide supervision to lower-grade lab employees and perform additional tasks as required.
