Work Arrangement: Remote Eligible
Pay Range: $93,000 to $148,000 per annum
The Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University is committed to advancing community well-being through compassionate care, innovative learning, and cutting-edge research. Our faculty not only engage in practice and education but also focus on creating new knowledge that informs future medical practices and prevention strategies, with a strong emphasis on reducing health disparities.
We are currently seeking a Social Science Research Scholar to join Pascal Geldsetzer’s research group, a “dry lab” dedicated to quantitative analysis of existing datasets, often publicly accessible. The group’s current research centers on the causal effects of shingles vaccination on cognitive function, with plans to extend this work to study the impact of other vaccinations administered in old age and the effects of infections on dementia. Key data sources for our projects include electronic health records, epidemiological cohort studies, mortality data, and large health-related administrative datasets. The research scholar will play a leadership role in this work and is expected to publish findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
We are particularly interested in candidates with deep expertise in econometric and quasi-experimental methods for causal inference, such as regression discontinuity and difference-in-differences. The role is available immediately, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Core Duties:
- Conduct and oversee data analyses, providing guidance to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
- Lead the writing of manuscripts for scientific publication.
- Mentor and advise junior researchers.
- Assist with, and potentially lead, grant applications for research funding.
- Communicate with research funders, data providers, and project administrative staff.
Education & Experience:
- Doctoral degree with a focus on quantitative research.
- Experience with quasi-experimental techniques (e.g., regression discontinuity, difference-in-differences).
- A background in health-related research is beneficial but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in coding with R, Stata, or similar statistical software.
- Strong writing and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workloads effectively.
This position is open to candidates across the United States, with compensation aligned to Stanford's regional pay structures. The expected salary range is $93,000 to $148,000 per annum, with the final offer depending on various factors including qualifications and location.
Stanford University offers a comprehensive benefits package, detailed on the Cardinal at Work website, which includes retirement plans, generous time off, family care resources, health benefits, and access to world-class fitness facilities.
