Overview:

Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) is seeking a creative and inspiring teacher to join our Science Department as a General Science and Chemistry teacher. This role is ideal for an educator passionate about fostering inquiry-based learning and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborative Planning: Work with department members to develop engaging and effective unit plans, learning experiences, and assessment strategies aligned with WAB’s curriculum and assessment guidelines.
• Inquiry-Based Approach: Employ inquiry-based teaching methods and differentiate lessons to support individual student needs and interests.
• Mentorship and Extracurricular Involvement: Serve as a mentor teacher, contribute to extracurricular activities, and engage in school development initiatives.
• Support Implementation: Collaborate with the Head of the Science Department to implement strategies supporting student success.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Teaching Theories and Practices: Apply contemporary teaching and learning theories, collaborative planning, and assessment.

• Content Knowledge: Strong understanding of General Science (Grades 9-10) and Chemistry (Grades 11-12).
• Personal Skills: Effective with diverse student backgrounds, skilled in inquiry-based and concept-driven approaches, and creative with resilience.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area.
• Teaching Qualification: Recognized Teaching Qualification and/or Registration.
• Experience: At least two years of full-time teaching experience, preferably with diverse student groups, including those with EAL and learning support needs. Experience with IB MYP and/or IB DP is preferred.
• IB Training: Completed IB MYP and/or IB DP workshop(s) (preferred).
