Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Classroom Teacher will provide educational leadership and hands-on instruction for students, ensuring their academic growth and development. This role involves supervising teaching assistants, volunteers, and students while maintaining a dynamic and engaging classroom environment. The teacher will also contribute to curriculum development, attend school and department meetings, and handle various administrative tasks.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Instruction: Supervise and educate students, utilizing teaching assistants and volunteer parents as needed.
- Lesson Preparation: Prepare materials for lessons, presentations, labs, projects, and learning centers.
- Record Management: Maintain student attendance and grade records, both in hard copy and electronic format.
- Curriculum Development: Follow the Common Core curriculum and develop lesson plans in line with these standards.
- Parent Communication: Set up meetings with parents during conferences and as needed, providing updates on student progress.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage purchase orders, work orders, incident reports, and field trip requests.
- School Involvement: Participate in school events such as open houses, science fairs, concerts, and field trips.
- Website Updates: Maintain classroom websites and act as a communication liaison between the administration, parents, and students.
- Documentation: Keep anecdotal notes and written observations on students’ progress.
- Extra-Curricular Activities: Sponsor at least one after-school club, with additional compensation for these duties.
Curriculum Development & Planning:
- Action Plans: Oversee the development and implementation of subject-specific action plans, aligning them with curriculum cycles and school-wide learning outcomes.
- Assessment & Improvement: Coordinate the evaluation of student programs, analyze data, and develop action plans for program improvement.
- Instructional Materials: Revise and update instructional materials in line with current research and school philosophy.
Program Evaluation:
- Data Analysis: Gather and analyze student data to assess the quality of the school program and develop action plans for improvement.
- Self-Study Coordination: Lead the gathering and analysis of classroom data for self-study and program evaluation purposes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Speak English at a native or fluent level.
- Update class websites and information boards.
- Maintain sensitive school data with confidentiality.
- Be aware of campus activities and communicate effectively with all staff members.
- Troubleshoot under the direction of the administration as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Teaching license or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an accredited school is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer literacy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and discretion with confidential information.
Working Conditions:
Work takes place in a typical school environment, with occasional evening or weekend work required for school events. Some overnight travel may be necessary.
