Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Department of Global Communications (DGC) within the Outreach Division’s Education Outreach Section. The incumbent will report to the Chief of the Education Outreach Section and the Manager of the United Nations Outreach Programme on the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Slavery. The Education Outreach Section leads strategy, planning, development, and implementation of global education initiatives on key UN issues. The selected candidate will be expected to start on 1 January 2025.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Public Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
• Implement information programmes to publicize priority issues/events.
• Monitor current events, public opinion, and press; advise management.
• Promote media coverage of priority issues/events.
• Produce or oversee communication products.
• Prepare drafts for UN publications.
• Maintain professional relationships with key constituencies.
• Act as a focal point for the Outreach Programme.
• Collect and analyze data for insights.
• Support UN field offices on educational activities.
• Undertake other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, or related field is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted.
Languages
Assessment of qualified candidates will include an assessment exercise followed by competency-based interviews.
