Position Overview:
The Vascular Aging Biology Unit at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join Dr. Allison Herman's lab. This role focuses on exploring genomic changes related to cellular senescence in normal vascular aging and age-related cardiovascular conditions. You'll leverage high-throughput techniques and animal models to investigate senescent cell niches, identify crucial genes linked to senescence, and develop therapeutic strategies to enhance healthspan.

Research Focus:
You will study the heterogeneity of senescent cell niches in the vasculature, particularly how aging vascular smooth muscle cells contribute to vascular stiffening and cognitive decline. The research involves a multidisciplinary approach, integrating genomic analyses, advanced imaging, and preclinical aging models.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research on genomic changes in vascular aging and cardiovascular pathologies.
  • Utilize high-throughput genomic techniques (RNA sequencing, single-cell sequencing, etc.) to identify key genes and pathways.
  • Employ animal models to study the effects of senescent cells on vascular health and cognitive function.
  • Collaborate with team members to analyze data and design further experiments.
  • Contribute to research publications and present findings at conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biomedicine or related field; less than five years of postdoctoral training.
  • One or more first-author peer-reviewed publications in molecular biology, cardiovascular biology, neurobiology, or geroscience.
  • Strong background in genomics and cellular senescence; experience with high-throughput techniques preferred.
  • Proficiency with animal models related to aging or cardiovascular disease is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; excellent communication skills.
