Description

Employer: Harvard University
Location: Harvard University, Boston, United States
Published: June 25, 2024
Application Deadline: October 3, 2024 (23:59 America/New York)

About the Fellowship: Radcliffe fellows are exceptional scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, and artists whose work is making a significant impact in their fields and the broader world. Located in Radcliffe Yard—a sanctuary within Harvard University—fellows join a vibrant interdisciplinary community, allowing them to step back from their usual routines and immerse themselves in their projects.

With access to Harvard’s extensive resources, Radcliffe fellows can develop innovative tools and methods, challenge conventional artistic and scholarly boundaries, and shed light on historical and contemporary issues.

“A year at Radcliffe was everything I could ask for. The gifts of time and space elevated the way I thought about my work. After many years, I felt truly free to explore my craft.”
—2022–2023 Radcliffe Fellow

Application Process: The online application for the 2025–2026 fellowship year is now open. The deadlines for applications are:

  • Humanities, social sciences, and creative arts: September 12, 2024
  • Science, engineering, and mathematics: October 3, 2024

Throughout the year, fellows convene to share their progress, challenge each other’s ideas, and support one another’s ambitions, often describing it as the best year of their professional lives.

The Radcliffe Fellowship Program awards 50 fellowships each academic year. Applicants can apply individually or as a duo working on a shared project. We value diversity across multiple dimensions, including discipline, career stage, race and ethnicity, country of origin, gender and sexual orientation, and ideological perspectives.

We encourage applications from scholars and artists proposing innovative work addressing pressing social and policy issues, engaging audiences beyond academia. Proposals relevant to women, gender, and society, or utilizing the Schlesinger Library’s collections, are especially welcome.

Focus Areas:

  • Climate change, with a focus on impact and equity
  • Academic freedom, including political polarization and inequality
