Position Overview:
The Department of Physics at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Experimental Laboratory Astrophysics. This field focuses on laboratory experiments and theoretical studies to complement astronomical observations and astrophysical modeling. Auburn University seeks candidates who can bring innovative experimental approaches to expand and strengthen research in this exciting area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and lead a cutting-edge research program funded by external sources, focusing on laboratory experiments that enhance our understanding of astrophysical phenomena and space environments.
- Conduct experiments related to astrochemical reactions, atomic and molecular physics, and other fundamental astrophysical processes.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines, including astrophysics, plasma physics, planetary science, and heliophysics, to advance knowledge in laboratory astrophysics.
- Teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, providing expertise in laboratory techniques and experimental methods.
- Participate in departmental service and university-wide initiatives, helping to promote Auburn’s research in laboratory astrophysics on the national and international stages.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Proven potential or success in securing external funding to support research activities.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in laboratory astrophysics and experimental methods.
- Commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaboration across fields such as physics, chemistry, and planetary science.
- Eligibility to work in the United States at the start of employment and throughout the term.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., astrophysicists, astrochemists, planetary scientists).
- Expertise that enhances the science return of astrophysical research, either through laboratory work, data interpretation, or instrument development.
- Dedication to fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive research environment that supports diversity and belonging.
