Description

The Interfaculty Institute of Microbiology and Infection Medicine Tübingen (IMIT), a partner of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), is seeking applications for a DZIF-funded Independent Junior Research Group Leader (m/f/d) in the field of healthcare-associated bacterial pathogens.

This Junior Research Group (JRG) will be appointed for a five-year period with the goal of advancing research in areas such as:

  • Genome-based epidemiology
  • Antibiotic resistance
  • Virulence and immune evasion mechanisms
  • Microbiota interaction
  • Outbreak modeling
  • Infection control of major healthcare-associated bacterial pathogens, particularly from the ESKAPE pathogens group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead an independent research group within the DZIF and contribute to central projects related to healthcare-associated infections.
  • Engage in basic and translational research within IMIT’s highly interactive, interdisciplinary environment.
  • Collaborate with the Cluster of Excellence EXC2124 and other German Research Council-funded networks focused on microbial control and infection.
  • Support and integrate with existing Tübingen-based research networks and contribute to new research initiatives currently being developed.

Qualifications:

  • MD (preferred) or PhD in a relevant field.
  • A record of successful research funding and publications.
  • Strong motivation and commitment to pursuing an academic career in infection research.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
    • Genome-based epidemiology
    • Antibiotic resistance
    • Pathogen virulence and immune evasion
    • Interaction with microbiota
    • Outbreak modeling
    • Infection control
