Job Overview
Wellington College China is seeking a passionate and experienced Teacher of English Language and Literature for our Secondary School, responsible for delivering exceptional education to students in Years 7 – 13. Our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is paramount, and we prioritize the assessment of applicants’ suitability to work with young learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Outstanding Teaching: Deliver high-quality English Language and Literature instruction aligned with the English National Curriculum, IGCSE, and IB/A Level standards.
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate with colleagues to shape and enhance key stage schemes of work from KS3 to KS5.
- Language Acquisition: Foster a language-rich environment and support structured vocabulary acquisition, ensuring excellent student progress.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere, setting high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement.
- Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Pastoral Role: Contribute to the school’s pastoral care as a house tutor, supporting the well-being of students.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A university-level degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience in English Language and Literature.
- Experience teaching first and second language English within the English National Curriculum, with IGCSE, IB, or A Level experience preferred.
- A strong background in teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL), particularly IGCSE English as a Second Language and/or IB English B.
Additional Responsibilities
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to staff training initiatives.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with housemasters and parents regarding student progress.
- School Community: Actively participate in co-curricular activities and contribute to school events and assemblies.
