Description

The ECC Teaching Assistant (Substitute) will work as part of the ECC team to provide support, both in and out of the classroom, for ECC students. This role involves assisting teachers in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment, supporting children’s development, and ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Mission and Values:

    • Promote the values and mission of BCIS.

    • Implement school-wide policies.

    • Foster and maintain a positive working environment.

    • Maintain open communication with staff.

  2. Classroom Support:

    • Support the school’s strategic goals of personalization, collaboration, and leadership.

    • Promote and maintain a calm, caring, and appropriately challenging environment for children.

    • Develop a deep understanding of the school’s curriculum and assessment policies and practices.

    • Play with children to enhance and extend their curiosities and inquiries.

    • Assist teachers with tasks inside and outside the classroom that directly impact children’s learning.

  3. Childcare and Development:

    • Support children’s self-care abilities, including toilet training/diaper changing, eating, dressing, and rest time supervision.

    • Escort and supervise children when moving around the campus.

    • Work with small groups of students as directed by the teacher to support learning in all areas.

    • Support children’s language learning in English and Mandarin.

  4. Administrative and Communication Tasks:

    • Assist teachers with translation and communication with parents and school-related business.

    • Refer all parent questions, comments, and concerns directly to the appropriate teachers.

    • Assist in completing necessary administrative forms.

  5. Professional Responsibilities:

    • Attend all meetings as required by the school leadership team.

    • Carry out substitution and supervisory duties, including after-school activities and open days.

    • Contribute to the success of the school through attendance at events such as Open Houses and Spring in the City.

    • Participate in professional development opportunities.


Desired Qualifications:

  1. Education:

    • Fluent in English.

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, Education, or a relevant field.

    • Teaching qualification.

  2. Experience:

    • Experience working with and specialization in early childhood education preferred.

    • Successful experience working as part of a team.


Evaluation:

In addition to actively reflecting on their own practices, all BCIS Teaching Assistants are appraised by the Principal or delegate in accordance with Board Policies and Protocols.
