About us
The State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases was founded in 2007. It is led by Professor Li Lanjuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a strategic scientist in the field of infectious diseases, and is jointly built by Zhejiang University and China Medical University. It is a strategic scientific and technological force that integrates national scientific research platforms, clinical transformation bases, and high-end talent think tanks. The laboratory has modern scientific research space of 60,000 square meters and is equipped with a cluster of cutting-edge instruments worth more than 600 million yuan. The scientific and technological value has ranked first in the country for 11 consecutive years, and has become a Chinese benchmark in the global map of infectious disease prevention and control.
Innovation system
The laboratory has created a management model of goal orientation, performance management, collaborative research, and open sharing. It has built an innovation consortium led by four academicians, 50 national high-level talents, and more than 200 multidisciplinary backbones. It has established 18 research technology platforms and nine research wards (with 400+ beds), forming a full-chain research system from basic research to clinical treatment, and established a deep cooperation network with more than 30 top institutions in the world and more than 1,000 units across the country.
Milestone Contribution
- An international model for the prevention and treatment of emerging infectious diseases.
We achieved major results in "Major innovations and technological breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of emerging infectious diseases represented by human infection with H7N9 avian influenza", which be honoured as an international model. We identified the 3D fine structure of the whole virus of the SARS-Cov-2 for the first time, and created the "Zhejiang experience" for the prevention and treatment of COVID, and significantly reduced the mortality rate.
- Reduction of mortality rate of severe hepatitis and liver failure.
We pioneered the new technology of Li's artificial liver (Li-ALS) with independent intellectual property rights, and came up with the combined therapy of Li-ALS and liver transplantation treatment, which significantly reduced the mortality rate;
- Subversionof the traditional concept of simple sterilization in anti-infection.
We proposed and continuously enriched the theory of infectious microecology for the first time, and established the world's first gene set of intestinal flora from cirrhosis patients, and developed new microecological regulation supplements such as Wei Le Shu;
- Benchmark for scientific research.
We presided and completed more than 400 national projects (with a total funding of more than 1 billion yuan, and related results were published in Nature, Cell, Lancet, NEJM, BMJ and other journals. We won more than 20 landmark awards such as the Special Prize (the first one in national education system and health system), the first prize and the Innovation Team Award of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
Future Journey
In line with the national strategy of reducing the severity and mortality rate of infectious diseases, the laboratory is promoting three major strategic research projects.
