About Us: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) China is the national office of UNDP, the global development network of the United Nations. UNDP China has a long-standing commitment to poverty reduction and human development, with a growing focus on South-South cooperation.
Our Communications, Innovation, and Partnerships team enhances the visibility and understanding of UNDP’s work through various communication strategies. This includes media engagement, social media management, and the development of high-impact multimedia campaigns. We also focus on innovation and new methods to tackle development challenges.
Role Overview: We are seeking a motivated and skilled Translation and Communications Intern to support our Communications, Innovation, and Partnerships team. Under the guidance of the Communication and Innovation Officer, you will assist with translation, communication tasks, and various ad hoc responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translation and Interpretation:
- Translate communication materials, including op-eds, press releases, speeches, and social media content.
- Translate project documents such as ProDocs, annual work plans, and event programs.
- Provide interpretation services for high-level visits and events.
- Communications Support:
- Monitor media coverage, draft summaries, and perform basic analysis.
- Create and design content for social media platforms (e.g., Weibo, WeChat).
- Assist in preparing outreach materials, such as presentations and brochures.
- Conduct research and compile materials for advocacy and media events.
- Provide on-site support for events, including press conferences and video shoots.
- Additional Tasks:
- Assist with various ad hoc tasks as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Commitment to the mission and values of the UN.
- Experience in translation, media events, or social media campaigns.
- Demonstrated leadership in university or social activities.
- Strong communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other online collaborative tools.
- Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented.
Educational Background:
- Major in English (translation), international relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program, or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program, or within one year after graduation.
- Alternatively, enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program.
Additional Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication in English and Chinese.
- Skills in graphic design, photo editing, or social media content creation are a plus.

Internship Conditions:
- Proof of health insurance and a medical certificate of good health required before starting.
- Monthly stipend with 1.5 days of leave per month.
- Responsibility for visas, travel, and accommodation lies with the intern or their supporting institution.
- Interns are not staff members and cannot represent UNDP officially.
