Job Overview
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Academic and Disciplinary Writing. This is a full-time, 12-month contract position starting in January 2025, with the possibility of renewal. The fellow will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary research team focused on enhancing academic writing support across disciplines.
This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in English, applied linguistics, education, rhetoric, or related fields, and a passion for academic writing research and pedagogy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations of a research team focused on academic and disciplinary writing
- Collect and manage qualitative and quantitative data, including student writing samples, interviews, surveys, focus groups, and think-aloud protocols
- Design instructional materials and teaching resources for academic writing support
- Facilitate academic writing workshops for students and faculty
- Offer one-on-one writing support and feedback to students
- Create and maintain online modules that scaffold academic writing skills
- Analyze data from student writing and other research instruments
- Support the preparation of conference presentations and scholarly publications
Qualifications
- PhD in English, Applied Linguistics, Rhetoric, Second Language Acquisition, Education, or a related discipline
- Proven teaching experience, especially in academic or disciplinary writing
- Experience designing curriculum or instructional materials for writing instruction
- Background in writing research, discourse analysis, systemic functional linguistics, or corpus linguistics
- Familiarity with online learning tools and module development (preferred, not required)
