Description
The University of Geneva, internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading academic institutions, invites applications for a tenure-track position as Associate or Assistant Professor in the field of Genetics/Epigenetics of Language Development within its Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty comprises 3,500 students and over 200 research groups, playing a key role in medical education, research, and innovation alongside the Geneva University Hospitals.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Genetics and Development, which integrates Genetics/Genomics and Developmental Biology, focusing on human disease and phenotypes. This position is closely aligned with the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "Evolving Language," which combines biological, linguistic, and cultural approaches to explore the origins and evolution of communication systems, including human language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead a competitive, externally funded research program.
- Teach pregraduate and postgraduate courses in fundamental medicine and related fields.
- Lead a research team within the Faculty of Medicine.
- Participate in the activities of the NCCR "Evolving Language" and the Department of Genetics and Development.
Qualifications:
- PhD or MD-PhD with demonstrated expertise in the genetics/epigenetics of language development.
- Strong research background in human genetics and communication disorders, with an interest in evolutionary genetics or ancient DNA.
- Proven ability to secure competitive research funding and publish in leading peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is highly valued.
- French language skills are not required at the time of application; support will be provided for developing proficiency over the first three years.
Starting Date: September 1, 2025, or as agreed.
