Position Summary
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Syntax, beginning July 1, 2025. The initial appointment is for the 2025–2026 academic year, renewable for up to two additional years based on performance and funding.
The successful candidate will conduct independent research in syntax and contribute to the department’s collaborative research culture. Additional responsibilities include helping to organize Penn Syntax Lab meetings and participating in the intellectual life of the department and the broader university community engaged in language research.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Linguistics (completed before the start date).
- Research specialization in syntax, with possible interfaces in morphology and/or semantics.
- A strong research agenda and active engagement in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to collaborative academic environments.

Overview
Penn dates its founding to 1740, when a plan emerged to build a Philadelphia charity school that would double as a house of worship. After construction was underway, however, the cost was seen to be much greater than the available resources, and the project went unfinished for a decade
The university has four undergraduate schools and 12 graduate and professional schools.
