Subject Description
The position focuses on the development and application of innovative light-based techniques for the study of biological systems at the molecular, cellular, and tissue levels. The scope includes experimental light microscopy and quantitative image analysis, with particular emphasis on advanced modalities such as super-resolution and light-sheet microscopy. Applications span across biology, biophysics, and medical research.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and further develop two major research infrastructures:
- National Microscopy Infrastructure (NMI)
- Advanced Light Microscopy (ALM) at SciLifeLab (50% appointment)
- Conduct research in method development within advanced light microscopy.
- Align research activities with infrastructure and educational developments.
- Contribute to course development and instruction at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in the unit for biophysics.
- Supervise bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students.
- Attain proficiency in Swedish within three years of appointment (language support provided if needed).
Eligibility
To be eligible for appointment, candidates must:
- Hold a PhD or possess equivalent scholarly or professional qualifications relevant to the subject.
- Demonstrate documented pedagogical expertise.
Assessment Criteria
Primary Criteria
- Documented scientific excellence in advanced fluorescence microscopy (e.g., super-resolution, light-sheet), evidenced by high-impact publications, externally funded projects, and active participation in collaborative research.
- Proven teaching proficiency at undergraduate and/or advanced levels.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop infrastructure and personnel, including knowledge of gender equality and diversity in academic environments.
Secondary Criteria
- Capacity to establish and maintain international collaborations and networks.
- Experience engaging with external stakeholders (e.g., industry, public sector, healthcare).
- Administrative competence and experience in managing complex academic operations.
