Description
The Director of Human Resources (HRD) for the President and Provost Office (PPO) at Stanford University is a pivotal leadership role, offering strategic HR support and collaboration across 16 independent organizations. These organizations range from Undergraduate Admission & Financial Aid to Stanford University Press and various educational and outreach programs like Stanford Continuing Studies and Knight-Hennessy Scholars Programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Advisor: Lead HR initiatives in collaboration with PPO Unit Directors and senior leadership. Develop organization-specific practices, participate in HR strategy planning, and promote best practices tailored to each organization’s needs.
- Employee Relations: Investigate complex employee relations issues, recommend resolutions, and ensure compliance with policies and laws. Analyze trends and provide coaching on organizational and labor relations.
- Performance Management: Design and implement performance appraisal processes, provide training and guidance to managers, and direct interventions as needed.
- Team Management: Oversee a team that includes a Sr. HR Business Partner, HR Manager, HR Administrator, and 8 dotted-line HR Administrator reports. Manage HR support for approximately 500 benefits-eligible staff and up to 1000 contingent staff.
- Compensation and Classification: Manage the annual salary-setting program, advise on employee classification, and develop incentive programs.
- Leaves and Accommodations: Oversee workers' compensation, disability, leave, and workplace accommodation processes. Act as a resource for managers and employees, ensuring proper documentation.
- Approvals and Analysis: Approve HR transactions, prepare reports, and analyze HR data.
- Staffing and Talent Management: Oversee recruitment, staffing plans, and retention. Support high-level searches and advise on affirmative action objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive experience advising senior management on HR matters, including employee relations, compensation, staffing, and organizational development.
- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership abilities, and experience in managing organizational change.
- Analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR information systems.
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent certification is preferred.
