It is led by Professor Li Lanjuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a strategic scientist in the field of infectious diseases, and is jointly built by Zhejiang University and China Medical University. It is a strategic scientific and technological force that integrates national scientific research platforms, clinical transformation bases, and high-end talent think tanks. The laboratory has modern scientific research space of 60,000 square meters and is equipped with a cluster of cutting-edge instruments worth more than 600 million yuan. The scientific and technological value has ranked first in the country for 11 consecutive years, and has become a Chinese benchmark in the global map of infectious disease prevention and control. The laboratory has created a management model of goal orientation, performance management, collaborative research, and open sharing. It has built an innovation consortium led by four academicians, 50 national high-level talents, and more than 200 multidisciplinary backbones. It has established 18 research technology platforms and nine research wards (with 400+ beds), forming a full-chain research system from basic research to clinical treatment, and established a deep cooperation network with more than 30 top institutions in the world and more than 1,000 units across the country. In line with the national strategy of reducing the severity and mortality rate of infectious diseases, the laboratory is promoting three major strategic research projects.
  1. Mechanism deciphering: analyzing the pathogenicity of pathogens and the mechanism of severe infectious diseases, drawing a dynamic regulatory network map of severe diseases, and discovering key targets to inhibit severe diseases;
  2. Precision diagnosis: establishing new technologies for multiple, rapid, and multi-scenario detection and molecular typing of pathogens, and creating AI-based diagnosis decision-making system;
  3. Treatment innovation: creating new strategies for the treatment of severe infectious diseases, and developing new therapy for multi-organ replacement and artificial organ support treatment.
