About the Program: Discover a transformative learning experience at the Illinois LLM program, grounded in the collaborative learning partnership approach. Our dedicated faculty and staff, together with an exceptional student body, work in tandem to prepare LLM candidates for success in their professional lives. The program is designed as a partnership where commitment to professional advancement and dedicated effort are key to achieving your goals.

    LLM Program Overview:

Admissions Requirements: We welcome applicants holding a bachelor’s degree, LLB, or equivalent degree. The bachelor’s degree need not be in law. Applications are accepted year-round, with priority given to those submitted by April 1 for a fall (August) program start and September 1 for a spring (January) start. Admissions for Spring 2024 close on November 16.

Application Process: To apply, complete the LLM application available at either LSAC or the University of Illinois Graduate College. Take advantage of the waived application fee for the coming year. You can also apply through the Graduate College to avoid LSAC fees.

Application Requirements: Ensure your application includes a completed form, résumé, statement of purpose, certified transcripts, one letter of reference, and a TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test score (valid for two years). Certified transcripts and academic credentials should be uploaded, with official documents required only upon admission.

TOEFL or IELTS Score: Submit an official score result from TOEFL (minimum 80 internet-based) or IELTS (minimum 6.5). Duolingo English Test scores (minimum 115) are also accepted for a limited time.

Character and Fitness: Foreign-educated applicants aspiring to practice law in the U.S. should be aware of character, fitness, and other qualifications required for bar admission. Consult the National Conference of Bar Examiners for eligibility details.

Application Deadline: Applications are reviewed year-round, with priority deadlines for fall and spring program starts. The College of Law continues reviewing applications until the class is full.

Rolling Admissions: The program follows a rolling admissions process, offering flexibility for applicants to apply throughout the year.

Seat Deposit: Secure your place in the incoming LLM class by paying a non-refundable $750 seat deposit by the specified deadline.

I-20 or DS-2019 Processing: International applicants, upon seat deposit receipt, undergo a review for University of Illinois I-20/DS-2019 processing. Respond promptly to requests for additional documentation for timely I-20/DS-2019 issuance, a process taking 2 to 4 weeks.

Annual Security and Fire Safety Report: Refer to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for statistics and policies concerning campus security and safety. Obtain a hard copy by contacting the Division of Public Safety or accessing the report online.
