Job Description:

The Yakutat Ranger District is seeking a uniquely qualified individual for a Recreation Technician Intern Placement. In this role, you will assist with the maintenance of recreation sites, cabins, trails, and airstrips in the beautiful landscapes of Yakutat, Alaska. The district encompasses eight cabins, five airstrips, several recreation sites, and 90 miles of trails that require ongoing maintenance, including mowing, brushing, and upkeep.

As part of your responsibilities, you will be flown to remote areas of the district using small planes to conduct maintenance activities. Training will be provided, and you'll gain hands-on experience using equipment such as brushers, saws, and other tools with appropriate personal protective equipment. Occasionally, you'll camp for extended periods, typically 4 or 5 days, and approximately three or four times throughout the summer.

In addition to maintenance duties, a portion of your time will involve assisting with educational activities, including the Yakutat Tern Festival, Family Fishing Day, Summer Explorers Program, and more.

Program Dates:

• Start Date: April 8, 2024
• End Date: September 22, 2024

Compensation:

• $1,500 - RT travel allowance to the work site and back
• $425 - weekly living allowance
• $400 - PPE allowance (work gear must be requested with receipts)
• AmeriCorps eligibility (Education award of $3,447.50)
• Housing provided

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
