Position Overview: A Research Scientist position is available in the Department of Neurosurgery. The role involves supporting a multidisciplinary research program in surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, and palliative care. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Research Coordination and Development:
    • Develop and manage the program’s translational research portfolio.
    • Assist with grant writing for local, federal, and foundation grants.
    • Oversee clinically-annotated banked tissues from patient samples.
  2. Research Focus:
    • Investigate genetic and epigenetic alterations in metastatic bone and spine diseases.
    • Characterize tumor-specific and tumor microenvironment changes.
    • Study pre-clinical models of novel therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform molecular biology and microbiology techniques (e.g., PCR, ELISA).
  • Maintain and manage mouse models (e.g., husbandry, genotyping).
  • Conduct animal models of disease and relevant experimental procedures.
  • Execute literature reviews and guide research.
  • Perform technical procedures like PCR, qPCR, and electrophoresis.
  • Analyze complex genetic and morphologic data.
  • Maintain organized records and manage laboratory operations.
  • Aid with grant writing, IRB applications, budget preparation, and protocol submission.
  • Assist with the training of residents, students, and undergraduates.

Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent in Cancer Biology, Genetics, or Cell Biology.
  • Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in molecular cloning, post-translational regulation, and animal models.
  • Skills in bioinformatics and molecular biology techniques preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
