Position Overview:

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Ancient Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor. This role is anticipated to start on July 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field, who has demonstrated excellence in both research and teaching. The ideal candidate will have a strong research record and the ability to pursue innovative and independent research at an international level. They should also establish a competitive, externally funded research program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct groundbreaking research in Ancient Philosophy and develop an outstanding research program.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contributing to the Department’s diverse and dynamic curriculum.
  • Publish in top-ranked journals and present at significant academic conferences.
  • Engage in service to the Department and the University.

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
  • Research Excellence: Demonstrated by publications in top journals, presentations at significant conferences, and strong referees’ endorsements.
  • Teaching Excellence: Supported by a comprehensive teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and evaluations.
