Position Overview:

The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in the Sociology of Health and Mental Health. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a projected start date of July 1, 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative and independent research in the Sociology of Health and Mental Health at an internationally recognized level.
  • Develop and maintain a competitive, externally funded research program.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contributing to the Department’s broad curriculum.
  • Publish in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals and present at major conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field with a strong emphasis on social science and health, to be completed by the appointment start date or shortly thereafter.
  • Research Excellence: Proven by a record of high-impact publications, presentations at significant conferences, and strong recommendations from referees.
  • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrated through teaching accomplishments and a comprehensive teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and evaluations.
